It’s a rarity, but when the topic of Islamic extremism comes up on his liberal show and his guests spew the usual talking points, he isn’t afraid to call it “liberal bull****” to their faces.
With the recent terrorist attack in London earlier this week, that naturally became a subject of debate on last night’s show, and even the self-identified conservative on the panel (former Heat Street head Louise Mensch) was more than happy to interject the usual nonsense usually heard from the left. After she implied that the attack had nothing to do with Islam, he told Mensch, “let’s not pretend that [the attack] has nothing to do with Islam, the religion.”
She replied stating that if this attack is the fault of Islam, then the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing had to do with Roman Catholicism. A bizarre analogy considering that the man who carried out that attack, Timothy McVeigh, was an agnostic. That aside, even if he was religious, he didn’t commit his attack in the name of religion, which can hardly be said about Islamic extremists.
Maher was quick to point out that Mensch’s argument was a “false equivalency,” stating that “Every time some bomb goes off, before it goes off, somebody yells ‘Allahu Akbar,’” Maher said. “I never heard anyone go ‘Merry Christmas, this one’s for the flying nun.’”
“Are there Christian terrorist armies like ISIS?” Maher asked.
MSNBC host Chris Hayes brought up the Irish Republican Army as an example, apparently unaware that they were motivated by the belief that Ireland should be an independent republic, not religion. Oh, and they were leftists too.
“Are there Christian terrorist armies like ISIS, Al Qaeda, Boko Haram, al-Shabaab. Are there armies like that in the world that aren’t Muslim?” Maher asked again. “Let’s not f**k around with this anymore,” Maher said. “Can we please get real.”
And there was another heated discussion on Overtime:
You know what they say — a broken clock…
