Singer Alicia Keys posts INANE tweet for National Muslim Women’s Day; INSTANTLY regrets it

USA Today ran a story earlier this month titled “Hijab becomes symbol of resistance, feminism in the age of Trump,” documenting the stories of a number of young women who don’t understand the concept of irony.

Would you believe that even the burka is now a “feminist symbol?” Singer Alicia Keys turned a few heads yesterday in a now-deleted tweet that seemed to indicate as much, which makes about as much sense as trying to turn the noose into a civil rights symbol.

Needless to say, glorifying women being forced to wear black polyester in the scorching heat of the Middle East as a symbol of empowerment didn’t resonate well with most people.

For anyone who was unaware, Monday was National Muslim Women’s day, in which many people championed the cause of improving human rights and freedoms for Muslim women, while spreading stories about the oppression they face on social media.

Every day we grow closer to a headline from the satirical newspaper The Onion in 2003 becoming reality; “Women Now Empowered by Everything A Women Does.” Even they didn’t have the foresight to include the burka in their article, however.
