WHAT? “Work with Trump” declares….major LIBERAL city

The University of California at Berkeley has been in the news a lot lately, usually for the wrong reasons. Of course, Berkeley has a reputation as one of the most liberal cities in the country, something the recent riots helped highlight. California overall, in fact, is the most liberal state in the union. But a new poll of California voters conducted by UC Berkeley is turning heads.

From Breitbart:

A new by the Institute of Governmental Studies (IGS) at UC Berkeley shows that a majority of registered voters in California want the state’s elected Democrats to work with President Donald Trump rather than to resist his agenda.

The poll reveals that “by a 53 percent to 47 percent margin, slightly more voters prefer that when state leaders disagree with the president they should try to work with him even if it means making compromises, rather than opposing him if it risks negative consequences and losses in federal funding.”

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the poll found that when federal government money is at risk, Californians are more likely to come to the negotiating table. Nonetheless, the results are a departure from the actions of elected Democrats. Since Trump took office, the party has abandoned working across the aisle completely. But the country’s most liberal state sees room for common ground, despite vast disagreements:

The poll also found that California voters approve of Trump’s policies on infrastructure, the economy and jobs — and disapprove of his policies on every other issue.

Democrats have been beating the infrastructure drum for years, yet have not shown a willingness to work with President Trump on any of his agenda. California voters see a different approach — working with the president on areas of common ground — as more favorable.

Congressional Democrats have favored resistance every step of the way, but this poll shows that might not be what voters want. Despite calls for California to secede garnering widespread media attention, this poll revealed that “CalExit” doesn’t enjoy much support:

In addition, the poll finds that Californians reject “CalExit” and proposals to secede from the Union by more than a two-to-one margin, 68 percent to 32 percent. Republicans (85 percent no, 15 percent yes) are more opposed than Democrats (56 percent no, 44 percent yes) to seceding.

The poll offers a perspective on the feelings of liberals that has mostly gone unnoticed. Despite the fact that many liberals hold unfavorable views of President Trump, they see working with him on areas of agreement to be in their best interest.

Sadly, their elected officials haven’t caught up to public opinion, choosing instead to continue the childish games.
